The landing page.

What it does

The quiz is for new players, returning veterans, and anyone who can't decide what to roll. Thirteen questions cover how you like to fight, what you bring to a group, which character fantasy pulls you in, and what would annoy you most.

You land on a result page with its own shareable link. It gives one main pick, such as Tauren Shaman, with the reasons for the race and the class, plus two alternatives: the same class with a different race, and a different class altogether.

A second tool, Spec pairings (opens in a new tab), is for players who already know what they'll play. Pick your specialization and it shows which specs pair best with yours for leveling, dungeons, and PvP.

How the scoring works

The scoring uses fixed rules. There is no randomness and no AI, so the same answers always give the same result.

  • Every one of the 56 race and class combinations available in the game is scored, so the quiz never suggests a pairing you can't create.
  • Each question carries a separate weight for class and for race. Fighting style and character fantasy say the most about class; atmosphere and faction say the most about race.
  • On ranked questions your first pick counts most. Three picks split one question's weight 55.6%, 33.3%, and 11.1%.
  • Class is chosen first, then the best race for that class. A strong race match can't override the class.

The full weights are published on the site's How this works (opens in a new tab) page and in the repository README.

Design decisions

  • Explainable by design. Every recommendation traces back to your answers, and the result page explains the race and the class pick from them. Anyone can check the method.
  • Game data is versioned. Race and class combinations and racial abilities are checked by hand against Blizzard's panel recaps and Wowhead. Each saved result records the data and quiz version, and offers a retake when either changes.
  • Feedback that a shared link can't skew. Only the person who took the quiz can rate their picks. The voting receipt is stored apart from the share link and checked by the server.
  • Privacy defaults. Results expire after 90 days, stats are aggregate counts with no per-person breakdown, and analytics load only after consent.
  • Tested. The scoring rules and pages are covered by 26 test files.
